I always thought I should be in the business of hiring coaches. I don’t know whether you know it or not, but you’ve got a good coach right here. Thanks, Bum! We happen to agree, but it's good to hear from you.
Watching Wednesday’s practice, Phillips was struck by the discipline of the players and the way the Baylor coaches ran the practice. “You don’t have to yell at ’em and embarrass ’em in front of everybody. Instead of always telling a guy what he did wrong, tell him how to do it the right way. That’s what Guy and his staff were doing.”This might be the reason that Morriss and his staff have been able to do so much with what appears to be less talent than the teams around us. It is going to be nice when the players that they have recruited start filling into more of the starting spots and taking the team to another level.
The thing that seemed to impress Phillips the most was the focus of the players, even in 106-degree heat. “Even the guys on the sidelines were watching what was going on. If they can be that focused at a practice in that kind of heat, they’re going to be focused in the fourth quarter when the game’s on the line.”
