Quarterback Situation

I'm dumbfounded that there are people so caught up in defending Bell that they are actually blaming Terrance Parks for the loss yesterday. I think this must come from one of two things: 1) they didn't watch the game, just caught the stat line, or 2) they are so blinded by their disdain for Parks that they attribute lack of pass blocking and all the drops and the tipped pass for an interception to Parks.

"It's Parks fault for throwing the ball too hard!" Are you kidding me? You're upset because our QB is capable of throwing the ball hard? That's ridiculous.

Parks escaped from many sacks and only threw on or two bad passes all game. Many times he put the ball right into the hands of the receivers and they muffed it. Sims did this and it resulted in an interception.

If Bell had played against UT, we would have had negative yardage. He would have thrown up 30 passes into the stands, connected on 5 passes to RBs in the flats for no gain and would have been sacked around 12 times for -94 yards. That's not an exaggeration, that's what really would have happened.

LQ to RT was a mistake. He doesn't have the quickness to block the ends, and it showed as the rush usually came from his side and it was usually very successful.

Here's what I liked about Parks:

Mobility: He got out of the pocket when he needed to and [gasp] stepped up into the pocket and delivered the ball much better than anything I've ever seen Bell do.

Calm: He never got flustered. He was taking sick hits out there, he was always under pressure and his receivers kept dropping passes, but he never lost his cool. He just stepped back into the huddle and went back to work.

Running: I separate this from mobility, because... I can. I wish he had kept it a few more times on the zone-read play, but when he got out in the open he usually got some good yards, and when there wasn't anything available he [again, gasp!!] lowered his head and pushed. Amazing, right!?

His throws were on the money, expect for two (and only one of those was turned into an interception) and he got a few completions for good yards taken back because of penalties.

I sincerely hope that Terrance is kept as the starter for the next two games. Bells potential is tapped out and isn't good enough. I know, it sounds harsh, but it's a fact. He doesn't have the talent to play consistently at this level. Parks needs some experience and he's gonna be good.

A parting thought:

After playing UT, playing against MU and OSU is going to be like playing some third stringer jokers. Neither of their lines compare to UTs and after playing Young, Smith and Reid are nothing to worry about. I really think that if Parks starts, then we win the next two games. If Bell starts, we have a shot against OSU, but we aren't winning both. Let's hope the coaches stay with Parks.

Baylor vs. Texas, big loss...

This is not what we were hoping for, as Baylor fans, but if you didn't think something like this was possible, then you were kidding yourself. Texas did what they've done all year. They rolled. Without our two starting defensive tackles, we weren't able to slow them down enough, and it showed in the final score.

Texas is a machine. They manufacture yards behind that incredible offensive line, and it doesn't matter if I was running behind it, I would average around 4 yards per carry.

Their defensive line is similar and they got ~36 deep there.

There's no excuse for losing this big, and we should have performed better, but we didn't. Let's put it behind us and look to the next two games, games we need to win in order to get to a bowl game.

Baylor Football is enjoying the Guy Morriss Era. Here at the Baylor Football Fan Blog, I will try to keep you up to date (sorta) on the goings on of Baylor football and my thoughts as well.
