Baylor @ Army Prediction

OK, it's prediction time. Now I've been talking with some guys on Army's message board and they seem to think they have a decent squad, despite their poor showing against Boston College and so I'm leaning toward giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm going to pretend that I believe that their offensive line will not be dominated by Baylor's defensive line, despite the huge strides our d-line has made from last year. I'm also going to pretend that I believe that their defensive line isn't going to be dominated from the get-go, despite being outweighed by Baylor's o-line by 40 pounds per man. I'm also going to ignore their incredible youth after losing 17 starters and soemthing like 41 lettermen from last years 2-9 squad. I'm going to pretend that they have a talented and deep receiving corps despite having only two receivers catch passes last week. I'm going to pretend that Jones is going to return to his 2004 production, despite the fact that he lost almost the entire line he ran behind from last year, and all but one of the players blocking for him weren't on the field last year long enough to earn a letter.

Given that, Baylor will still find a way to win, with a final score of 28-27 and we'll count ourselves lucky to do it.

Now, if I DON'T assume all those things above, I come to a completely different conclusion, though I still feel the need to hedge my bet, so to speak, because this is a VERY long road trip and weather should prove to be a factor.

That said, I believe that Army will play the Bears tight for the first half until their starters just can't go anymore and that we will pull away in the second half.

Halftime score:
Baylor 17
Army 14

Final Score:
Baylor 45
Army 21

Now to all you Baylor fans and Army fans who think this is a crazy prediction, let me be clear: I would be more than happy with a 28-27 win, or a 17-16 win or a 14-13, or whatever. A win is a win is a win. But I really don't think that Army will be able to stand against our line strength for more than 1 half. And I don't think their offensive line is strong enough to maintain their running attack, however talented their running back is, long enough to give their defense significant rest. That's how I come to the score I do.

Baylor Football is enjoying the Guy Morriss Era. Here at the Baylor Football Fan Blog, I will try to keep you up to date (sorta) on the goings on of Baylor football and my thoughts as well.
